Creative Approaches to Storytelling

Creative Approaches to Compelling Characters

This interactive webinar is designed to get writers thinking about the importance of characterization in the books they read and how to write their own compelling characters. Chrystal will help readers analyze the characters from some of her favorite stories, guide them through exercises on how to go beyond the basic character profile, and provide tips on how to arrive at an authentic voice for their own characters. Creative Approaches to Using Filmmaking Techniques to Enhance Drafting and Pacing

From research, to scripting, to scene selection, thinking like a documentary filmmaker can be a powerful creative tool. Award-winning picture book author Anika Aldamuy Denise offers a new lens to frame and focus your writing. April 18, 2024 (7:00-8:30pm)


Creative Approaches to Revision

While everyone approaches revision a little differently, you can learn a lot from hearing how writers --from picture book to nonfiction to YA-- have attacked specific challenges. Elizabeth will be including examples from books she's worked on and quoting from interviews she's done with writers on their process. Included in the talk will be a few tips for getting unstuck as well. June 6, 2024 (7:00-8:30pm)


Welcome to the RMC!

The Rocky Mountain Chapter includes both Colorado and Wyoming. We have about 640 members, with just over 450 of those designating themselves as writers and over 145 as illustrators or writer-illustrators. Of the total, about 400 are Associate members, just over 100 are Full and nearly 130 are PAL (Published and Listed) members. We have nearly 200 Illustrator members. Many of our members are award-winners, both locally and nationally, as well as best-selling authors.
