Happy Book Birthday!

Sue Heavenrich’s newest picture book is "The Pie that Molly Grew" (illustrated by Chamisa Kellogg). Using "The House That Jack Built" rhyme scheme, the story begins with planting a seed and ends with a fat, round pumpkin that gets turned into a pie. “I get my best ideas in the garden,” says Sue. “A few years ago I was planting pumpkin seeds and a line came into mind: this is the pie that Molly made. It niggled and jiggled around in my brain and would not leave me alone until I wrote it down. Over time, and many pies, that line grew and ripened into a book.” Released August 15 from Sleeping Bear Press.

Happy Book Birthday!

Dee Romito has a new picture book coming out this month, "Love Is in the Air: The Story of Aviation Pioneer Nancy Harkness Love" (illustrated by Vivian Mineker). Not only was Nancy Love the first female pilot to serve in the Army Air Forces, she was also the director of the Women’s Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron (WAFS) during World War II. “As soon as I learned about Nancy Love, I had to know more,” says Dee. “It turns out there's a whole history of these incredible female pilots, who were the first to fly for the US military, that most people don't know about. I felt so strongly that Nancy's story needed to be told and I hope it will inspire others to follow their own dreams.” This book soars into the world September 26 from Aladdin.

Good News!

David Neuner, who many of us know as the co-facilitator of the Syracuse Shop Talk group, is thrilled to announce that he is now represented by Heather Cashman of Storm Literary Agency. “A HUGE thank you to all of you in the #WritingCommunity who have supported me along the way!” David says. “I couldn't have done it without you!”

We are a diverse group of published authors and illustrators with a passion for creating books that engage and inspire readers. We hold PAL talks 2-3 times a year to discuss various aspects of publishing and our careers. Our PAL members have been invited to speak at ShopTalks, regional and national conferences, and many of us work with schools and libraries to create quality programs for students. Got questions? Need help? Contact PAL Coordinator, Sue Heavenrich.
